Famous theater personality habib Tanvir Passes away

Veteran theatre personality Habib Tanvir died here early on Monday after prolonged illness, family sources said. He was 85. Tanvir died at about 6.30 a.m. at the National Hospital, where he had been admitted about 20 days ago after developing respiratory problems. Hospital sources said Tanvir later suffered kidney failure and his condition worsened. The playwright's funeral will be held here Tuesday, family sources said. Tanvir was a popular Hindi playwright, theatre director, poet and actor. He had written plays like "Agra Bazar" (1954) and "Charandas Chor" (1975). In 1959, he founded a theatre company called the Naya Theatre here. He was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1969, Padma Shri in 1983, Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship in 1996, and the Padma Bhushan in 2002. Tanvir was also nominated as a member of the Rajya Sabha (1972-1978). His play "Charandas Chor" got him the Fringe Firsts Award at the Edinburgh International Drama Festival in 1982.
He was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1969, Padma Shri in 1983, Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship in 1996, and the Padma Bhushan in 2002; apart from that he has also been nominated as a member of the Upper House of Indian Parliament, the Rajya Sabha (1972-1978). Early life and education
Habib Ahmed Khan 'Tanvir' was born on September 1, 1923 in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, to Hafiz Ahmed Khan, who hailed from Peshawar.
He passed his marticulation from Laurie Municipal High School, Raipur, and later completed his B.A. from Morris College, Nagpur in 1944. Thereafter he attend Aligarh Muslim University, for a year doing his M.A first year.
Early in life, he started writing poetry and took upon a takhalluz, pen name, Tanvir, and soon he was being called, Habib Tanvir.

Rajeev Motwani co-founder of Google, found Dead in Palo Alto

Rajeev Motwani (Hindi: राजीव मोटवानी; March 26, 1962 – June 5, 2009) was a professor of Computer Science at Stanford University. He died on June 5, 2009 in a swimming pool accident that occurred at his home. He was an early advisor and supporter of companies including Google and PayPal, and a special advisor to Sequoia Capital. He was well known for his research in theoretical computer science and was a winner of the Gödel Prize in 2001 for his work on the PCP theorem and its applications to hardness of approximation.

There is a bit of Motwani in every technology you use! That is how ex-colleagues recalled Google co-founder Rajeev Motwani. Motwani was found dead in a swimming pool at his Palo Alto home on Sunday. Almost instantly, Net was abuzz with tributes to Google’s mentor.
A much-loved Stanford University professor from India, Motwani wanted to be mathematician, opted for Computer Sciences out of compulsion and discovered that his love for numbers found perfect expression in machines. The success stories at Google, Paypal, Sequoia Capital are all a reflection of what the man stood for. Born in Jammu and Kashmir, Motwani’s schooled at Delhi’s St Columbus, graduated at IIT- Kanpur and acquired his doctrate from University of California, Berkeley. He won Godel Prize in 2001 for his work on the PCP theorem and its applications to hardness of approximation.
"Officially, Rajeev was not my advisor, and yet he played just as big a role in my research, education, and professional development," Google co-founder Sergey Brin wrote in his blog Friday hours after Motwani, 47, was declared dead. "In addition to being a brilliant computer scientist, Rajeev was a very kind and amicable person and his door was always open. No matter what was going on with my life or work, I could always stop by his office for an interesting conversation and a friendly smile," Brin wrote. Inspiration for GoogleMotwani relocated to the US in the mid-1980s, later serving as the director of graduate studies for the computer science department. It is here that he mentored many start-ups and proved to be a major catalysts in the Silicon Valley developments.Silicon Valley gurus credit Motwani with impacting products and companies significantly. Michael Arrington, a serial entrepreneur and founder of the blog TechCrunch said Brin and Page always gave Motwani significant credit for helping them create what would eventually become Google. It was a 1998 paper called ''What Can You Do With A Web In Your Pocket'' by Brin, Motwani, Page and Terry Winograd that became the basis for Google. In the paper, the quartet said they intended to ''take advantage of the link structure of the Web to produce a global 'importance' ranking of every web page.'' They said this ranking, called PageRank, helps search engines and users quickly make sense of the vast heterogeneity of the World Wide Web.

Mentor of Google co-foundersMotwani, who was best known for mentoring numerous Stanford graduate students, including Google co-founders Larry Page and Brin, was also a special adviser to Sequoia Capital and invested in companies including PayPal and Google. Silicon Valley angel investor Ron Conway said in a video tribute: "He shared my attitude that the more entrepreneurs you can help, even if you only give them five minutes, go do it. He never refused a meeting with an entrepreneur that I suggested he meet just to give them some quick advice." His success, however, "never came in the way of Rajeev's quest for knowledge and innate desire to help others," wrote his friend, blogger Om Malik. "There wasn't a start-up he didn't love." Condolences poured out over the Internet as news spread about the sudden demise of Motwani.The mood of a TechFellow event in San Francisco Saturday night turned from cheerful cocktail-sipping banter to stunned silence as the news of Motwani's death spread quickly throughout the couple of hundred attendees, wrote Michael Arrington of TechCrunch.com. "Most everyone who was there is his friend. And most everyone there had a story to tell about how Motwani had helped them at one time or another, asking nothing in return. I have a couple of those stories myself," he said. Versatile tech mindMotwani's research spanned a diverse set of areas in computer science, including databases, data mining, and data privacy; Web search and information retrieval; robotics; computational drug design; and theoretical computer science. He authored two books, "Randomized Algorithms" and an undergraduate textbook published by in 2001. Among other honours, he won the prestigious 2001 Godel Prize, which is awarded for excellence in the field of theoretical computer science. Motwani sat on the boards or advisory boards of Google, Mimosa Systems, Neopath Networks, Revenue Science, Stanford Student Enterprises Ventures, and Vuclipa, among others. He was also active in the Business Association of Stanford Engineering Students.

"Billy Elliot," the big British musical about a coal miner's son who dreams to dance, bowled over Broadway on Sunday, winning 10 Tonys, including best musical and a unique best actor prize for the three young performers who share the title character.
The trio _ David Alvarez, Trent Kowalik and Kiril Kulish _ traded off thank-yous during their acceptance speech, shyly thanking people associated with the show only by their first name. They also acknowledged siblings and parents. Finally, Kulish told the cheering crowd at Radio City Music Hall: "We want to say to all the kids out there who might want to dance, 'Never give up.'"
"Billy Elliot" collected eight other awards, including director of a musical, book of a musical and choreography, but its composer Elton John was upset for best score. That award was taken by "Next to Normal" _ which seemed to stun "Normal" composer Tom Kitt and lyricist Brian Yorkey. Alice Ripley, who portrays battling mental illness in "Next to Normal," received the actress musical prize.
"God of Carnage," Yasmina Reza's savage comedy of manners about two liberal, middle-class couples whose children get into a fight, was named best play and picked up two other major awards, one for its director, Matthew Warchus, and the other for actress Marcia Gay Harden.
Reza, who previously won a best-play Tony for "Art," said: "Maybe you missed my accent; you wanted to hear it again. I'm very grateful for all the people who gave their best for the production."
"The Norman Conquests," Alan Ayckbourn's trilogy, received the revival-play prize, while "Hair," the iconic 1960s rock extravaganza roared to a win in the musical-revival category.
The director/musical award went to Stephen Daldry of "Billy Elliot."
"I have been blessed in my life to spend the majority of last 10 years of my life working on the story of 'Billy Elliot,'" said Daldry, who called it "a long, extraordinary journey."

Dawood Ibrahim’s younger brother Anees killed or Injured?

India’s most wanted gangster Dawood Ibrahim’s younger brother Anees was reportedly attacked by some unidentified men in Karachi late on Thursday.

Times Now reported him as 'killed'. Zee News is reporting as 'injured'. 

According to the latest news report, dozens of bullets were fired at Anees Ibrahim, who is one of the most active members of the ‘D’ company, outside an al-Habib bank ATM in Karachi. 

Although no confirmation was available yet, it is been suspected that the armed unidentified men belonging to a rival mafia gang based out of Balochistan. 

The exact details of the incident are still awaited and there is no still confirmation about the condition of Anees Ibrahim. 

Anees is also one of the prime accused in the 1993 Mumbai blast case and India has been seeking his extradition along with other members of the D gang. 

Baluch leader, three others injured in parcel bomb explosion 

A parcel bomb exploded in the house of BNP Awami MLA and Baluch leader Yaqoob Bizenjo on Friday injuring four persons. The bombs exploded in the drawing room of Yaqoob’s house in Karachi’s Khaydan area. 

According to Pak media a parcel bomb was received by Yaqoob’s family which exploded when it was tried to open. 

Yaqoob, along with three of his family members are reported to be injured in the explosion. The injured have been rushed to the hospital. 

The pallets from the bomb tore through the walls and roofs of the room and even damaged the air conditioner in the room. 

Speaking to the journalist Pak police officials said that the bomb to be of medium intensity. The sender of the parcel is still unknown though.

Kill Bill Star David Carradine murdered or Asphyxiation?

David Carradine (December 8, 1936 – June 3, 2009), born John Arthur Carradine, was anAmerican actor best known for his work in the 1970s television series Kung Fu and more recently in the movie Kill Bill. He appeared in more than 100 feature films and was nominated four times for a Golden Globe Award.

On June 4, 2009, Carradine was found dead in his room at the Swissotel Nai Lert Park Hotel on Wireless Road, near Sukhumvit, in central Bangkok, Thailand. A police official said Carradine was found hanging by a rope in the room's closet. Meanwhile, the Bangkok Post reported that his body was found curled up in the wardrobe with a shoelace tied around his penis and neck.

Khunying Pornthip Rojanasunand, a Thai forensic pathologist and Director of Central Institute of Forensic Science, stated the incident met four of the criteria for accidental death involving autoerotic asphyxiation. Pol Lt Gen Worapong Chewprecha, Commander of the Metropolitan Police, remarked that the closed circuit television installed within the hotel supported the theory that no other persons were involved with the death. Carradine's representative and family members told the press that they believed the death to be accidental and not a suicide.

Carradine was in Bangkok to shoot his latest movie, Stretch, but the film crew were aware of his absence when they went to dine out at a restaurant on June 3.

World Environment Day 2009 - Your Planet Needs You - UNite to Combat Climate Change

World Environment Day (WED) was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972.[1] WED is hosted every year by a different city and commemorated with an international exposition through the week of June 5. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), also created in 1972, uses WED to stimulate awareness of the environment and enhance political attention and public action.
"Stockholm was without doubt the landmark event in the growth of international environmentalism," writes John McCormick in the book Reclaiming Paradise. "It was the first occasion on which the political, social and economic problems of the global environment were discussed at an intergovernmental forum with a view to actually taking corrective action."

The theme for WED 2009 is 'Your Planet Needs You - UNite to Combat Climate Change'. It reflects the urgency for nations to agree on a new deal at the crucial climate convention meeting in Copenhagen some 180 days later in the year, and the links with overcoming poverty and improved management of forests.
WED 2009’s host is Mexico which reflects the growing role of the Latin American country in the fight against climate change, including its growing participation in the carbon markets.
Mexico is also a leading partner in UNEP's Billion Tree Campaign. The country, with the support of its President and people, has spearheaded the pledging and planting of some 25 per cent of the trees under the campaign. Accounting for around 1.5 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions, the country is demonstrating its commitment to climate change on several fronts.
Mexican President Felipe Calderon states that the WED celebration will “further underline Mexico's determination to manage natural resources and deal with the most demanding challenge of the 21st century – climate change.”
